Mackay Casings
“Welcome to the site of Mackay Casings Pty Ltd.
Since the company commenced business in 1982, the business has grown to a size where we are the major processor of natural casings in Australia.
Mackay Casings holds an AQIS export accreditation and has the AUS-MEAT certificate of accreditation.
Our office and main processing facility is located in Wangaratta, Victoria.

Mackay Casings production facilities source raw material (known as “green runners”) from up to 30 abattoirs from throughout Australia. Following retrieval at the abattoirs, the green runners are tied together into knots and placed into casks of chilled water. The strict maintenance of the “cold chain” from the abattoir to Mackay’s operation is achieved by use of insulated transport vehicles. Mackay’s abattoir supervisors work closely with staff at the abattoirs to manage the raw material quality from retrieval to arrival into the cold store at our facilities. After arrival the green runners go through a cleaning process.

Product for the Australian market is further processed - ie. selected and tubed as per customer requirements. A range of sheep/pig and beef casings are packed for customer requirements and distributed throughout the Australasian market.

The Wangaratta operation has the capacity to process approximately 8 million green runners per annum. The plant operates one shift each day.

Mackay is part of the van Hessen group. Founded in 1902, Van Hessen BV and its affiliates are market leaders in the distribution of casings to the sausage industry. Please visit http://www.vanhessen.com for more information about our company and our products.”
